Weekend trekking on Mont Blanc: Val Ferret, Rifugio Bonatti and Val Veny
Guiddy Difficulty Levels
Intermediate Plus
Description
Guidders, this time two days await us in the heart of the Mont Blanc massif, crossing the two valleys that symbolize Courmayeur: Val Ferret and Val Veny.
On Saturday we will walk under the gaze of the Grandes Jorasses, climbing from Lavachey towards the Walter Bonatti Refuge, at 2,025 meters, before entering the spectacular balcony trail of Val Ferret and reaching the Elena Refuge, at 2,061 meters, in front of the Pré de Bar glacier. The Bonatti Refuge stands right at the foot of the Grandes Jorasses and facing the Fréboudze glacier, while the Elena is one of the landmarks of the Tour du Mont Blanc.
On Sunday we will completely change scenery and move to Val Veny, on the opposite side of Mont Blanc. We will reach Lake Miage, enclosed within the moraine landscape of the glacier of the same name, cross the great Plain of Combal and continue towards the Elisabetta Soldini Montanaro Refuge, with the Col de la Seigne and the glaciers of upper Val Veny ahead of us.
In total, about 31 km and 1,500 meters of positive elevation gain await us over two days: a full weekend, designed for trained Guidders who want to really walk, but also stop at mountain huts, share the day and immerse themselves in one of Italy's most spectacular alpine landscapes.
