Description

.

Guidders, this time we’re leaving the mainland behind.

Facing Portovenere, in the heart of the Gulf of Poets, Palmaria Island awaits us: a concentration of limestone rock, Mediterranean scrub, ancient military remains, and dramatic views over the Ligurian Sea.

Wild Trails – The San Genesio Challenge is a trek designed for those who don’t simply want to walk around the island, but want to discover its roughest and most spectacular character. We’ll hike along rocky paths, ups and downs, panoramic viewpoints, and Mediterranean landscapes where the scent of vegetation constantly mingles with that of the sea.

On one side we’ll have Portovenere and the Gulf of Poets, on the other the open Mediterranean. And along the most scenic stretches, it will be Palmaria’s cliffs and rock formations that take center stage.

This won’t be a simple seaside stroll. The uneven terrain and some steeper sections require attention, sure footing, and solid hiking experience.

5 reasons to set off with us

🌊 1. A trek with the sea always taking center stage Few routes let you switch so quickly between Mediterranean woodland, rock, and wide-open sea views.

🪨 2. Discovering Palmaria’s wild side We’ll leave the most familiar views behind to seek out the island’s most authentic and rugged character.

🏰 3. Walking through nature and history The island preserves fortifications and traces of its long strategic importance at the entrance to the Gulf of La Spezia.

📸 4. Seeing Portovenere from a completely different perspective From the sea and the island’s highest points, the Ligurian village takes on a whole new face.

🤝 5. Taking on the challenge together with the Guidders Climbs, rock, sea, and that touch of adventure that turns a hike into a day worth telling stories about.

Book your spot: let’s cross the sea and discover Palmaria’s wildest side together with the Guidders.

✨ What makes this trek unique

Palmaria is an island that is small only on paper.

The constant alternation of slopes creates very different environments: more sheltered and greener areas suddenly give way to limestone rock, cliffs facing the open sea, and panoramic viewpoints suspended above the blue.

And it is precisely this contrast that makes the trek special.

We won’t be hiking to conquer a great summit. We’ll conquer perspectives.

Portovenere on the other side of the channel, the Gulf of Poets, the Ligurian coast, and the open sea will accompany us along a route where nature and traces of the island’s history continue to intertwine.
